A unique cafe in Coburg

Set in the grounds of Pentridge Prison, Coburg, The Boot Factory café is steeped in history. The building dates back to the 1850s, it was once part of the Coburg penitentiary where well behaved prisoners worked making shoes & boots for the prison guards.

The Coburg café is now family owned and the restoration has used all of the original features, the setting is an iconic space that looks over the guards tower and the looming walls of the prison.

The Boot Factory is famous for its hand made and home loved food. Dishes are transformed by the brigade of classically trained chefs using only the best ingredients and time honoured traditions making pastries and baking bread.

Suitable for breakfast, lunch, dinner, parties & more formal occasions, the interior has been sensitively decorated to create an atmosphere that is second to none, lounge away with a coffee on the comfortable chairs looking over the terrace or take a communal table and dine with the whole family. Children also love the atmosphere in the café and its noticeable that the babies just seem to settle in to the environment without so much as a cry.

Functions

Our cafe in Coburg, is so much more than a nice place to eat and drink. Set in the grounds of Pentridge Prison, Coburg we have an amazing, historic space that is suitable for all functions, parties & occasions, day or night.

Choose from 4 different areas to hold your function or party, The Loft is a private dining area that has its own bar looking over the whole café, alternatively, it can be used for business meetings as its fully equipped with an AV kit, flip charts and tables. The main floor is full of character where you still see the Pentridge walls and even the guard tower. The whole café is decorated so well and you`ll find it suitable for all parties, functions & events. Functions can be booked for 12 people or up to 140 people, if you`d like the whole café, please make an enquiry.

Our head chef, has a knack for making the food memorable, the team make everything from scratch using the finest local ingredients plus they use some time honoured traditions, we can offer canape menus, buffet style menus and set menus with a choice of 2 or 3 courses.

What`s cooking on the next menu?

We are excited to be introducing a new member, Gurdit our new Head Chef, comes from some of the best and has worked in St Ali and The Botanical where he honed some fantastic skills, cooking, baking, curing & smoking. Needless to say we are anticipating a fantastic change to the menu that will always follow seasonality and something a little unexpected.

So far we`ve played with tuna, kingfish, pork ribs and we are looking at some new breakfasts as well as an extended dessert range, so, watch this space!

Breakfast, lunch & coffee love…

Baristas ready to serve you the best coffee in Coburg, our coffee is produced by Tobys Estate, it has a well rounded sweetness with a lovely nutty finish, stay for one, two, three or take them away, the coffee is on!

The chefs carve out our menu daily, its fresh, its handmade and it smacks of love.

Try our crushed avocado, rocket & feta with grilled corn and tomato salsa or our sweet potato & halloumi hash and wash it all down with a super charged smoothie made fresh from our bar. Our lunch menu include crowd favourites such as Cajun fish tacos with Pico de Gallo and wash them down with a local craft beer from Barrow Boys or a cheeky little glass of Pinot from the Yarra Valley.
